Selecting the right lamp for a specific room is important because it has to blend in well with the current theme of the room. It has to be a highlight of a certain area in the room and not something that just fills up extra space.
For the living room, choose a lamp shade made of fabric or slightly opaque paper to provide warm glow in the room. If to be placed near a television, an opaque shade can be chosen to reduce glare. For a modern look, drum shades may be used and if traditional look is preferred, conical shades are recommended. For reading purposes, the lamp's bulb must be at least 60 Watts; a dimmer or three0way bulb can be used for modulating the brightness.
Shade comes in different colors, so make sure it is suitable for your needs. A darker shade will limit the light output which is very ideal for entryways. In contrast, a white shade provides a translucent quality.
Classic lamps also blend in better into any type of room; even modern themed rooms would look great with antique looking lamps. Most antique lamps would usually cost more than regular lamps, but investing on stylish pieces means that you are investing in a timeless piece of art.
