Modern chairs, whether cushioned with soft-padded seats or hardwood chairs, are both stylish and functional. They provide comfort and convenience to users and, at the same time, serve as great additions to home decor. These chairs deliver a more fashionable and elegant look to living and dining rooms, as well as to bedrooms and home offices. People who want to bring a more unique look and style to their homes through contemporary design, color and shape can always go for custom-made chairs offered by reputable manufacturers.
The second most common type of chairs are dining room chairs. You find them surrounding your dining room table. They are also available in different shapes, sizes, material and designs. You can opt for the backless dining chair, or a chair with a comfortable upholstery.
Many of today's contemporary chairs still offer the same basic functionalities that the old and traditional types of chairs are known to provide. The difference is that contemporary chairs do not only offer great functionalities, but they also serve as decorative pieces of furniture. Most of the chairs available in the market nowadays, whether a hardwood chair or a padded one, are built with exceptional designs and have trendy colors and styles. Some even have unusual and unique forms and shapes, but still offer the same, if not more, comfort and convenience to users.
The most popular of these chairs were the ones made so by the cavaliers who had been exiled by Charles II. During the reign of William and Mary these chairs degenerated into chairs that were more stiff and rectangular with a solid fiddle shaped splat and a cabriole leg with pad feet. Chairs that were a bit more ornamental had cane seats and caned backs. It is from these forms that the Chippendale chair was developed. This chair had an elaborately interlaced back, graceful arms and square legs. The Chippendale chair to this day is one of the most popular designs in history. It was created by Thomas Chippendale who lived from 1718 to 1779. He was one of the big three furniture makers of the 18th century along with Thomas Sheraton and George Hepplewhite. In 1754 he published a book of his designs which included the Chippendale chair design.
